Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy

The Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, cradled within the sacred Ndoto Mountains of northern Kenya, is a community-led sanctuary renowned for its breathtaking landscape and vital conservation work. It is most famous as the home of the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, the first community-owned elephant orphanage in Africa, which rescues and rehabilitates calves. The conservancy protects a vast wilderness of dry river valleys, dramatic hills, and critical habitat for elephants, Grevy’s zebra, and other rare species. Ultimately, it stands as a pioneering model where indigenous Samburu communities directly benefit from and steward their natural heritage.
