The Chyulu Hills, a verdant volcanic range in southeastern Kenya, rise dramatically from the arid plains of the Tsavo region. Often called the “Green Hills of Africa,” they are a relatively young geological formation, with volcanic activity as recent as a few hundred years ago. Their dense, mist-covered montane forests are a vital water catchment area, feeding major springs and the Mzima Springs pipeline. This unique ecosystem forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a sanctuary for diverse wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, and a rich variety of bird species.
