Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Welcome to the Koki Safaris Adventure Hub! We specialize in crafting seamless, immersive journeys that blend the thrill of wildlife, the depth of local culture, the mystery of ancient archaeology, and the raw beauty of camping and hiking. Find answers to our most common questions below.

We don’t believe in a single-experience trip. Our specialty is the curated combo. You won’t just see wildlife; you’ll also visit a local community, walk to an archaeological site with a guide, and sleep under the stars in a scenic campsite. We thread these elements into a single, flowing narrative for a deeply holistic adventure.

Our combos vary, but popular examples include:

  • The Explorer’s Circuit: Game drives → Archaeological site visits → cultural at local villages in manyattas → overnight camping.

  • The Trail & Tale Trek: Multi-day hiking/camping trip with stops at historical sites and wildlife viewing areas, culminating in a cultural homestays.

  • The Wilderness & Heritage Journey: Focus on major national parks (wildlife) combined with significant, off-the-beaten-path archaeological ruins and guided cultural interactions.

We recommend booking at least 2-4 months in advance and around 6 months for gorilla and Chimpanzees visit, especially for peak seasons (e.g., dry seasons for wildlife, cool seasons for hiking). This ensures availability for our specialized combo itineraries and the best camping/lodge spots.

Absolutely! We can tailor itineraries to suit families. Some hikes or archaeological walks may be modified for younger children, and we can adjust camping setups for comfort. Please discuss your children’s ages and interests with our planning team.

It varies by trip. We offer a range from moderate (gentle walks to sites, short hikes, comfortable camping) to strenuous (multi-day trekking, rugged terrain, bush camping). Each safari description has a fitness rating, and we provide a detailed itinerary to help you assess your readiness.

We offer both! We have scheduled group combo safaris that foster a great group dynamic. We also excel at designing private, custom safaris tailored to your specific interests—whether you want to focus more on birding, archaeology, spend extra time hiking, or have a particular cultural interaction in mind.

Yes, Wi-Fi is available in designated common areas at our lodges. However, connectivity can be intermittent due to our remote locations, allowing you to embrace a more authentic wilderness experience.

On a Koki combo safari, you’ll experience a mix! This may include: comfortable adventure fly camping (with tents, cots, or bed rolls), permanent tented camps (with en-suite facilities), eco-lodges, and occasionally community-run guesthouses or homestays for cultural immersion.

Your safety is paramount. Our guides are highly trained in wilderness first aid and wildlife behavior. All game drives and walks in wildlife areas follow strict protocols. When camping in wild areas, camps are set up with safety in mind, and guides are always on hand. We also maintain reliable communication systems. We always have armed KWS rangers during forest hikes.

We are deeply committed to ethical travel.

  • Cultural: We engage with communities through direct partnerships, ensure visits are respectful and non-intrusive, and often include a community fee that supports local projects.

  • Environmental: We practice Leave No Trace principles, especially on hikes and camps. We minimize plastic use, support conservation areas with our park fees, and educate our guests on low-impact travel.

Yes, we only visit sites with proper permissions. We work with local archaeologists and site custodians. Our visits include education on preservation, and a portion of our fees often contributes directly to site maintenance and protection efforts.

You’ll be led by our expert Koki Guides. They are more than just drivers; they are knowledgeable naturalists, cultural interpreters, and hiking guides. We engage elders with each knowledge of the communities we visit.

For group safaris, we keep numbers small to enhance the experience—typically 6-12 guests. This allows for personalized attention, easier logistics on hikes, and a more intimate cultural and wildlife experience.

Yes, please inform us at the time of booking. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other common dietary needs, especially at our own camps and lodges. It can be more challenging in very remote areas, so advance notice is critical.
